What are Veneers?
Dental veneers are thin, custom-made shells of tooth-colored porcelain or composite resin that are bonded to the front surface of teeth to improve their appearance. Veneers can correct a wide range of cosmetic concerns including discoloration, chips, cracks, gaps, misalignment, and irregular tooth shapes. By covering the visible surface of teeth, veneers create a bright, uniform, and natural-looking smile transformation. Porcelain veneers are the most popular choice due to their durability, stain resistance, and lifelike translucency.
The Procedure
The veneer process typically requires 2-3 appointments. During the first visit, your dentist removes a small amount of enamel from the tooth surface (usually 0.5mm) to make room for the veneer, takes impressions, and may place temporary veneers. The impressions are sent to a dental laboratory where custom veneers are crafted to match your desired shape and color. At the final appointment, the veneers are carefully bonded to your teeth using special adhesive and curing light. Minimal preparation or no-prep veneers are also available for certain cases.
Ideal Candidates
Ideal candidates have cosmetic concerns such as discolored, chipped, cracked, or slightly misaligned teeth that affect their smile confidence. Good candidates have good oral health with no active decay or gum disease, adequate tooth enamel for bonding, realistic expectations about results, and commitment to good oral hygiene. This treatment is excellent for those seeking dramatic smile improvement without orthodontics or more extensive dental work. Candidates should not have severe teeth grinding habits unless willing to wear a night guard.
