What is a Neck Lift?
A neck lift, or platysmaplasty, is a surgical procedure specifically designed to address aging signs in the neck area. This transformative surgery corrects loose, sagging skin, eliminates vertical neck bands (platysmal bands), removes excess fat, and restores a smooth, youthful neck contour and defined jawline. The neck lift can be performed as a standalone procedure or combined with a facelift for comprehensive rejuvenation of the lower face and neck.
The Procedure
Performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation over 2-3 hours, the neck lift involves incisions behind the ears and possibly under the chin. Through these incisions, your surgeon will tighten the platysma muscle, remove excess fat through liposuction if needed, eliminate surplus skin, and create a smooth, firm neck contour. The underlying muscles are sutured together to eliminate vertical banding, and the skin is re-draped for a natural, youthful appearance.
Ideal Candidates
Ideal candidates are individuals bothered by sagging neck skin, visible neck bands, loss of jawline definition, or a 'turkey neck' appearance. Good candidates are in overall good health, maintain a stable weight, have realistic expectations, and don't smoke or are willing to quit. This procedure is excellent for patients who may not need a full facelift but are specifically concerned about neck aging, typically ages 45 and older.
