What is Chin Augmentation?
Chin augmentation, or genioplasty with implants, is a surgical procedure designed to enhance the size and projection of a weak or recessed chin. A well-proportioned chin is crucial for facial balance and profile aesthetics. By placing a carefully selected implant over the chin bone, this procedure creates better harmony between the chin, nose, and other facial features, resulting in a stronger, more defined profile and improved overall facial aesthetics.
The Procedure
Chin augmentation is typically performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation and takes 1-2 hours. The surgeon makes a small incision either inside the mouth along the lower lip or under the chin. A pocket is created over the chin bone, and a silicone implant of appropriate size and shape is carefully positioned and secured. The incision is closed with dissolvable sutures. The implant is chosen based on your facial anatomy and desired outcome to achieve natural-looking enhancement.
Ideal Candidates
Ideal candidates have a weak, recessed, or disproportionately small chin that affects facial balance and profile. Good candidates are in good overall health, have realistic expectations, adequate chin bone structure to support an implant, and are non-smokers or willing to quit. This procedure is excellent for those seeking to improve facial proportions, often combined with rhinoplasty for optimal facial harmony. Candidates should be 18+ with fully developed facial bones.
