What is a Mini Facelift?
A mini facelift, also known as a short-scar facelift or S-lift, is a less invasive alternative to traditional facelift surgery designed for patients experiencing early to moderate signs of facial aging. This procedure focuses primarily on the lower face and jawline, addressing mild jowling, early nasolabial folds, and loss of jawline definition. With shorter incisions and a quicker recovery time, the mini facelift offers subtle yet effective rejuvenation for those not yet requiring a full facelift.
The Procedure
The mini facelift is typically performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia and takes 2-3 hours. Smaller incisions are made around the ears, avoiding the hairline extensions used in traditional facelifts. The SMAS layer is lifted and tightened in the lower face, excess skin is removed, and the incisions are closed with fine sutures. Because the dissection is more limited, there is less trauma to tissues, resulting in reduced swelling and faster healing compared to full facelift procedures.
Ideal Candidates
Ideal candidates are younger patients (typically 40-55 years old) with good skin elasticity experiencing early signs of facial aging. This procedure is perfect for individuals with mild jowling, early sagging along the jawline, and minor skin laxity who want to maintain a youthful appearance without the extensive surgery and recovery of a full facelift. Candidates should be in good health, have realistic expectations, and be looking for subtle, natural enhancement.
