What is a Brow Lift?
A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, is a surgical procedure designed to rejuvenate the upper face by elevating sagging eyebrows, smoothing forehead wrinkles, and reducing frown lines between the eyebrows. As we age, the forehead skin loses elasticity and descends, causing the brows to droop and creating a tired, angry, or sad appearance. A brow lift restores the eyebrows to a more youthful position, opens up the eye area, and creates a refreshed, alert expression.
The Procedure
Modern brow lifts are typically performed using the endoscopic technique under general anesthesia, taking 1-2 hours. Small incisions are made behind the hairline, and an endoscope (tiny camera) is used to visualize and release the tissues causing brow descent. The forehead muscles are adjusted to smooth wrinkles, and the brows are lifted and secured in their new position. Alternative techniques include the coronal (across the top of the head) or temporal (at the temples) approaches, chosen based on individual anatomy and goals.
Ideal Candidates
Ideal candidates have low or sagging eyebrows, horizontal forehead lines, vertical frown lines (the '11s'), or hooding of the upper eyelids caused by brow descent. Good candidates are in good health, have realistic expectations, adequate hair density to conceal scars, and are non-smokers or willing to quit. This procedure suits adults experiencing upper facial aging, typically 40-65 years old, who want to rejuvenate their appearance without affecting the lower face.
