What is a Deep Plane Facelift?
The deep plane facelift represents the most advanced facelift technique available, offering superior and longer-lasting results compared to traditional methods. This sophisticated procedure works beneath the SMAS layer, releasing and repositioning the deeper facial structures as a unified unit. By addressing the foundational layers of the face, the deep plane technique achieves more dramatic lifting, particularly in the mid-face and nasolabial fold areas, while maintaining an exceptionally natural appearance.
The Procedure
Performed under general anesthesia over 5-7 hours, the deep plane facelift involves releasing the retaining ligaments that hold facial tissues in place and elevating the entire SMAS-platysma complex as one cohesive layer. Incisions are made along the hairline and around the ears, similar to traditional facelifts, but the dissection occurs in a deeper anatomical plane. This approach allows for more significant repositioning of facial fat pads and tissues without creating tension on the skin, resulting in a natural, unoperated look.
Ideal Candidates
This technique is best suited for patients with moderate to severe facial aging, including significant mid-face descent, deep nasolabial folds, and prominent jowls. Ideal candidates are in excellent health, have realistic expectations, and desire the most comprehensive and long-lasting facelift results available. Patients should be willing to invest in a longer recovery period for superior outcomes that can last 15-20 years.
