What is Labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure designed to reshape or reduce the labia minora (inner vaginal lips) and sometimes the labia majora (outer vaginal lips). This procedure addresses both functional and aesthetic concerns, helping women who experience discomfort, irritation, or self-consciousness about the appearance of their labia. Common reasons for seeking labiaplasty include discomfort during physical activities, pain during intercourse, difficulty wearing certain clothing, hygiene concerns, or simply aesthetic preference. The surgery can significantly improve quality of life and confidence for many women.
The Procedure
The surgery is typically performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia and takes 1-2 hours. The most common technique is the trim method, where excess tissue is removed from the edge of the labia minora. Alternatively, the wedge technique removes a V-shaped piece of tissue from the central portion, preserving the natural edge. The surgeon carefully sculpts the tissue to create symmetrical, natural-looking results. Dissolvable sutures are used to close the incisions. The procedure is highly customizable based on your specific concerns and desired outcome.
