What is Monsplasty?
Monsplasty, also known as mons pubis reduction or pubic lift, is a surgical procedure designed to reduce and lift the mons pubis - the rounded mound of fatty tissue above the pubic bone. Excess fat and skin in this area can create an unflattering bulge visible in fitted clothing and swimwear, cause discomfort during exercise or intimacy, and lead to hygiene challenges. Monsplasty removes excess tissue and skin, creating a flatter, more youthful contour that enhances confidence and comfort.
The Procedure
Monsplasty is typically performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation and takes 1-2 hours. For patients with primarily excess fat, liposuction alone may be sufficient. When excess skin is also present (common after massive weight loss or pregnancy), surgical excision is performed. The incision is strategically placed low on the mons pubis where it can be hidden by underwear or swimwear, or incorporated into a tummy tuck incision if performed simultaneously. Excess fat and skin are removed, and the area is contoured and lifted for a smooth, natural appearance.
Ideal Candidates
Ideal candidates have a prominent, bulging, or sagging mons pubis due to aging, weight fluctuations, massive weight loss, or genetics. Good candidates are bothered by the appearance in clothing, experience discomfort during activities, have realistic expectations, are at or near stable weight, and are non-smokers or willing to quit. This procedure is commonly combined with tummy tuck or body contouring after weight loss. Candidates should be in good overall health and understand the location and visibility of surgical scars.
