What is Upper Eyelid Surgery?
Upper eyelid blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to rejuvenate the upper eyelids by removing excess skin, muscle, and sometimes fat that accumulates with age. This condition, often called 'hooded eyes,' can make you appear tired, aged, or even obstruct vision in severe cases. By removing this excess tissue and creating a smooth, natural eyelid contour, upper blepharoplasty restores a more youthful, refreshed, and alert appearance to the eyes.
The Procedure
Upper eyelid surgery is typically performed under local anesthesia with sedation and takes 1-2 hours. Incisions are made within the natural crease of the upper eyelid, making scars virtually invisible once healed. Through these precise incisions, excess skin is removed, and underlying fat pockets may be repositioned or removed to eliminate puffiness. The delicate tissues are then carefully sutured together, creating a smooth, natural eyelid contour that enhances the eye's appearance while maintaining natural function.
Ideal Candidates
Ideal candidates have excess upper eyelid skin that creates a hooded appearance, bags or puffiness above the eyes, or skin that hangs over the lashes potentially affecting vision. Good candidates are in good overall health, have realistic expectations, don't smoke or are willing to quit, and have stable thyroid function. This procedure is suitable for adults of various ages experiencing upper eyelid aging, with most patients ranging from 35-70 years old.
