What is Breast Lift Surgery?
Breast lift surgery, medically known as mastopexy, is a cosmetic procedure designed to raise and reshape sagging breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue. This procedure repositions the nipple and areola to a more youthful, elevated position while creating a firmer, more aesthetically pleasing breast contour. Unlike breast augmentation, a breast lift does not significantly change the size of your breasts but dramatically improves their shape and position.
The Procedure
During a breast lift, your surgeon will make incisions according to the degree of sagging and desired results. Common incision patterns include around the areola (peri-areolar), from the areola down to the breast crease (lollipop), or along the breast crease (anchor). Excess skin is removed, breast tissue is reshaped and lifted, and the nipple-areola complex is repositioned higher on the breast mound. The remaining skin is tightened to support the new breast shape. The procedure typically takes 2-3 hours and is performed under general anesthesia.
Ideal Candidates
Ideal candidates are women with sagging breasts due to aging, pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss, or gravity. You may benefit from a breast lift if your breasts lack firmness or shape, your nipples point downward or fall below the breast crease, your areolas have stretched disproportionately, or one breast is lower than the other. Candidates should be in good health, have realistic expectations, be finished with childbearing, and maintain a stable weight.
