What is Combined Eyelid Surgery?
Combined upper and lower blepharoplasty is a comprehensive approach to eye rejuvenation that addresses both the upper and lower eyelids in a single surgical session. This procedure simultaneously corrects hooded upper eyelids, excess skin, upper lid puffiness, under-eye bags, lower lid wrinkles, and dark circles for complete eye area transformation. By treating both eyelids together, patients achieve harmonious, balanced results and the most dramatic improvement in their overall eye appearance.
The Procedure
Combined blepharoplasty is performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia and takes 2-3 hours. The surgeon begins with the upper eyelids, making incisions within the natural crease to remove excess skin and fat. The lower eyelids are then addressed using either a transcutaneous incision below the lash line or a transconjunctival incision inside the lid. Excess fat is removed or repositioned, loose skin is tightened, and both areas are carefully sutured for optimal healing and minimal scarring.
Ideal Candidates
Ideal candidates have concerns with both upper and lower eyelids, including hooded upper lids, under-eye bags, puffiness, excess skin, and wrinkles around the eyes. Good candidates are in good overall health, have realistic expectations about results, adequate skin elasticity, and are committed to proper post-operative care. This comprehensive approach is perfect for patients seeking maximum eye rejuvenation, typically ages 40-70, who want to address all eyelid concerns simultaneously.
